Texas Sheet Cake


2 sticks butter

1 c. water
4 T. cocoa

Combine in a medium saucepan and heat slowly until boiling, stirring occasionally.

2 c. flour
2 c. sugar
½ t. salt
1 t. baking soda

Stir dry ingredients in a large bowl, then add chocolate mixture, and stir well.

½ c. buttermilk or sour cream
2 large eggs
1 t. vanilla

Combine, then fold into chocolate mixture.

Pour into greased 13”x 9” pan at 375 for 25 minutes, or until cake tests done.


1 stick butter

6 T. milk
1 c. chopped nuts
1 lb. powdered sugar

Place all ingredients except powdered sugar in a saucepan.  Heat slowly until butter melts and mixture comes to a slow boil.  Remove from heat and pour hot mixture over powdered sugar in a large bowl.  Beat until frosting is well blended.  Frost cake while frosting is still hot.  Sprinkle with nuts.
